What happens to what you send us.

The message goes to our inbox and nowhere else. We use it to reply to you and to prepare a survey. Sending it does not add you to the letter below, and we do not pass anything on.

If you would rather we deleted what you sent, say so in a reply and we will.

If you leave your address in the footer, it is emailed to the same inbox as everything else. There is no mailing-list account holding it, because there is no database on this site and we have not put one anywhere else.

We write when there is new research to send. Ask us to take you off, in a reply or a new message, and we will.

Nothing automatically. This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads nothing from any other company's servers — so there is nothing to consent to, and no banner asking you to. What we receive is what you choose to type into the contact form or the footer sign-up, and both are covered above.

Our host keeps ordinary server logs, which include IP addresses, for a short period. We do not read them for marketing and we do not join them to anything.

Every number carries the document it came from and whether we measured it, took it from a published source, or computed it here. Where two official sources disagree, we say so rather than picking the flattering one.

If a figure here is wrong, tell us. We would rather be corrected in public than quoted wrongly in private.
